Workload was similar for both groups and face validity (8.8 on a 10-point scale) was strongly supported.
Objective decision-making scoring for 2 of 3 scenarios and communication and teamwork ratings showed construct validity. Face validity and participant feedback were excellent.

Story after story is reported to us about people who believe that if they cease going to networking meetings and mixers every single week that their revenue will STOP.? Their perspective is that if they do not maintain a high activity of mixing and mingling with new people that they aren?t ?networking.?? The truth is that their personal definition of Business Networking appears to be skewed.
Their own description of activities that THEY are performing sounds a lot like selling, doesn?t it?
At its core, Business Networking is ?selling through your network, NOT to your network.?? Applying the foundational basics includes building relationships first, amassing trust and credibility in time, and then asking for referrals.? Don?t expect your network to buy from you.? If they do, that?s a bonus ? but don?t plan on it or even try to encourage it.? It might actually backfire.
We see it all the time.? People are attracted to the size of the event (i.e., your city or county?s biggest mixer) or the size of the weekly group such as a local BNI Chapter.? These individuals are most likely sales people looking for a Buyer?s Club to help them achieve their quota ? nothing more.? Once they pitch their network and a small percentage of people buy from them, they consider that group or network tapped out.? In this instance, you?ll hear these individuals murmuring, ?Oh, that networking group isn?t a good one.? I tried it out for 3-4 months, but they don?t pass any referrals.?? They then move on to another networking group and repeat the same self-centered activities (i.e., the rinse and repeat).
Once another 3-4 months rolls by again and they tap out that small percentage of kind souls that purchase from them, it?s back on the meandering trail to wander around and find that next networking group?and the next?and the next.? This is why we?d like to introduce the moniker The Networking Nomad? ? as it fits this type of person and their behavior.
Remember, Business Networking is more about ?farming? than it is about ?hunting.?? It takes time to cultivate relationships.? But once you dedicate the effort, we believe these relationships ultimately allow you to ?harvest? referrals for a lifetime.

ScienceDaily (Feb. 15, 2012) ? A new image from the APEX (Atacama Pathfinder Experiment) telescope in Chile shows a sinuous filament of cosmic dust more than ten light-years long. In it, newborn stars are hidden, and dense clouds of gas are on the verge of collapsing to form yet more stars. It is one of the regions of star formation closest to us. The cosmic dust grains are so cold that observations at wavelengths of around one millimetre, such as these made with the LABOCA camera on APEX, are needed to detect their faint glow.
The Taurus Molecular Cloud, in the constellation of Taurus (The Bull), lies about 450 light-years from Earth. This image shows two parts of a long, filamentary structure in this cloud, which are known as Barnard 211 and Barnard 213. Their names come from Edward Emerson Barnard's photographic atlas of the "dark markings of the sky," compiled in the early 20th century. In visible light, these regions appear as dark lanes, lacking in stars. Barnard correctly argued that this appearance was due to "obscuring matter in space."
We know today that these dark markings are actually clouds of interstellar gas and dust grains. The dust grains -- tiny particles similar to very fine soot and sand -- absorb visible light, blocking our view of the rich star field behind the clouds. The Taurus Molecular Cloud is particularly dark at visible wavelengths, as it lacks the massive stars that illuminate the nebulae in other star-formation regions such as Orion. The dust grains themselves also emit a faint heat glow but, as they are extremely cold at around -260 degrees Celsius, their light can only be seen at wavelengths much longer than visible light, around one millimetre.
These clouds of gas and dust are not merely an obstacle for astronomers wishing to observe the stars behind them. In fact, they are themselves the birthplaces of new stars. When the clouds collapse under their own gravity, they fragment into clumps. Within these clumps, dense cores may form, in which the hydrogen gas becomes dense and hot enough to start fusion reactions: a new star is born. The birth of the star is therefore surrounded by a cocoon of dense dust, blocking observations at visible wavelengths. This is why observations at longer wavelengths, such as the millimetre range, are essential for understanding the early stages of star formation.
The upper-right part of the filament shown here is Barnard 211, while the lower-left part is Barnard 213. The millimetre-range observations from the LABOCA camera on APEX, which reveal the heat glow of the cosmic dust grains, are shown here in orange tones, and are superimposed on a visible light image of the region, which shows the rich background of stars. The bright star above the filament is ? Tauri, while the one partially visible at the left-hand edge of the image is HD 27482. Both stars are closer to us than the filament, and are not associated with it.
Observations show that Barnard 213 has already fragmented and formed dense cores -- as illustrated by the bright knots of glowing dust -- and star formation has already happened. However, Barnard 211 is in an earlier stage of its evolution; the collapse and fragmentation is still taking place, and will lead to star formation in the future. This region is therefore an excellent place for astronomers to study how Barnard's "dark markings of the sky" play a crucial part in the lifecycle of stars.
The observations were made by Alvaro Hacar (Observatorio Astron?mico Nacional-IGN, Madrid, Spain) and collaborators. The LABOCA camera operates on the 12-metre APEX telescope, on the plateau of Chajnantor in the Chilean Andes, at an altitude of 5000 metres. APEX is a pathfinder for the next generation submillimetre telescope, the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), which is being built and operated on the same plateau.

We received the top-of-the-line twin 750GB model, so you can setup the drive as a 1.5TB RAID 0 enclosure (for most capacity) or as a 750GB RAID 1 enclosure (for data loss prevention). The drive can come formatted NTFS (Windows) or HFS+ (Mac) from the factory, but you can of course reformat the drive for your usage (we tested the drive using HFS+ on a Mac). If you get the empty enclosure, you can put your own drives in, but make sure they match to prevent problems down the line. The ToughTech Duo uses two pop-out drive sleds for easy-access to defective hard drives on the fly. Let's say you have the ToughTech Duo set up as a 750GB RAID 1 array, and you're in the field (but have a spare drive handy). If one of the drives fails due to mishandling or overuse, you can simply pop the offending drive out and replace it. You won't have to stop working to recover the drive, since the RAID 1 array still has the data on the functioning drive. After you've replaced the drive, you simply need to keep it on and connected so the RAID mirror can rebuild itself. The drive sleds are completely tool-less, a boon for quick changes if you're rushing to finish your photo shoot before dusk. If you fill up drives fast, you can keep a stack of (marked) hard drives in your bag and swap them out cartridge-style as they fill up.
The drive enclosure has a two-line LCD readout on the front of the closure and a four-way controller to run through the drive's built-in menus. They are primarily used to change the drive's RAID settings and indicate if the drive is healthy or not. It was simple to change RAID states; the process only took seconds. Remember that you'll have to reformat the drive when you change RAID states (and lose the data stored on the drive during the reformat). There are indicator lights by the drive sleds, which will help you figure out which drive has failed and needs replacement. One nice touch is the drive can be powered by the included AC adapter or natively via FireWire 800. You only need to bring one cable for the drive if you have a MacBook Pro or other laptop with a FireWire 800 port. But if you plan on using USB 2.0 or eSATA to connect your drive, you will need the included AC adapter in order for the drive to power on. The ToughTech Duo has a two-year warranty, which is pretty standard for a high-end drive.
Performance
The ToughTech Duo is a speedy drive, justifying much of its exorbitant price tag. It took only 17 seconds to transfer our 1.22GB test folder over FireWire 800 while the drive was setup for RAID 1. Contrast this with the La Cie Little Big Disk Thunderbolt (240GB SSD) ($899.99 list, 4 stars), which took only 11 seconds using the faster Thunderbolt interface. The Editors' Choice ioSafe Rugged Portable SSD (120GB) ($499 list, 4.5 stars) took 16 seconds using USB 3.0. The ToughTech shows a 82MBps read and 74MBps throughput on the AJA System test as well, faster than competitors like the former Editors' Choice Iomega eGo BlackBelt Mac Edition ($199.99 list, 4 stars) (46MBps read, 48MBps write via FireWire 800). Transfer speeds via the Thunderbolt interface on the LaCie outclasses all comers, however (480MBps read, 620MBps write). The ToughTech Duo is a speedy drive for the Mac (or PC) user who still hasn't bought into Thunderbolt yet.
The ToughTech Duo QR is an interesting drive. Its specs alone indicate it's overkill for the casual home user, who would be better off buying a far less expensive drive like the Iomega eGo Blackbelt or Western Digital My Passport Studio (1 TB) ($179.99 list, 4 stars). The drive is as expensive as the LaCie Little Big Disk Thunderbolt, particularly when you price out that drive's SSD configuration. However, the LaCie is a lot faster, thanks to those SSD drives and the Thunderbolt interface. Also consider that the LaCie doesn't come with a Thunderbolt cable, an added $49 expense. The ToughTech Duo QR basically differentiates itself with its quick-change drive enclosure, ensuring that you'll always have access to your live data. If you're a photographer (or videographer with a pre-Thunderbolt MacBook Pro) that absolutely needs rugged redundant storage, this is the one to get. Outside of that very narrow niche, there are other sane (and one insane) choices.
